MOC Inspiration: Trains, Planes and Automobiles

In honour of the incredible BrisBricks displays that have featured at our showroom this month, we’re celebrating all things trains, planes and automobiles and sharing some of our favourite transport-focused MOCs.

Norfolk and Western J-Class 611 Steam

This super straightforward, easy tutorial shows you how to build a Norfolk and Western class J steam train. At one point, these trains were thought to be the pinnacle of steam technology, built to pull passenger trains between Virginia and Ohio, USA. The 611 is the only class J locomotive that survives today (though it’s no longer in service).

This double-decker train MOC by The0 requires 115 different types of LEGO parts and comes complete with a control car and two wagons. We particularly love the timeless design – it would blend in with a number of displays, be it a modern city or a beautiful countryside.

CSX train engine

This MOC CSX Train Engine by AFOL TV might just be our favourite train build – look at that detail! While they admit it’s one of their tougher builds, more suited to advanced and experienced builders, the end result is totally worth it. Build it according to the instructions or have fun with your own configurations and colours.

Grumman F-14 Tomcat (Minifigure scale)

We just love a Minifigure-scale build, don’t you? This Grumman F-14 Tomcat is a particular favourite for its incredible texture, attention to detail and accuracy. Any aeronautics nut will love building this one and adding it to their collection, whether it’s to go on display or form part of a larger build.

Airbus A320

As far as free MOCs go, this is one of the best. This large Airbus A320 is more than just a pretty face – peek inside, and you’ll also see a bustling cabin complete with passengers, flight attendants and even a cockpit with adjustable armrests. Need we say more?

This MOC was created using parts from the 2021 LEGO Technic Race Plane set (42117) and is the ultimate testament to the endless fun LEGO Technic can offer. The custom model is just one of many alternative sets designed by Keep On Bricking, so check out their channel for more inspiration!

Lamborghini Countach

A fresh take on the classic LC5000, this build is an alternative take on the regular LEGO set 10295 Classic Porsche 911 (C model). It’s roughly the same scale as the original set and has plenty of functional elements, including working steering, opening doors, hood and engine cover, adjustable seats and more.

Cattle Truck

If you’re looking for your next large-scale vehicle build, you’ll find it in this cattle truck by ‘Absolute_lego_builds’. The creator based this build on a real-life cattle truck (which are called road trains because of their incredible size) and even included the different-sized trailers for accuracy.
