More than LEGO bricks

We’ve built something special here at BrickResales – I’m reminded of it every time I sit down at my desk.

My computer is surrounded by precious keepsakes and handwritten notes collected over fourteen (yes, fourteen!) years of BrickResales.

On my office wall, next to our planner detailing everything we have to look forward to, are photos of special memories I love to look back on.

But the best part is the view that’s straight ahead of me – past the LEGO reef I built with my dear friend Frances, through the window and out into the showroom. Every day, I get to see all of you walk through the door, dig through our tubs, chat to new and old friends and enjoy all that BrickResales has to offer (which, I’m sure you’ll agree, is so much more than just the LEGO parts).

I’ve been chatting to lots of people recently – indeed, I always chat to lots of people. But for whatever reason, recently, what we provide our community through this showroom has started to hit home.

For some of you, it’s a quick lunchtime dash to find those elusive pieces. For others, it’s hours upon hours of mindless scratching through hundreds of kilograms of mixed-up LEGO parts. And for others still, it’s precious time spent with your family, creating builds and memories.

For so many people, our showroom has become – to use their words – ‘my happy place’. We can see how important it is to have a space of comfort and safety, that’s completely free from judgement, especially when it feels like the outside world is pushing and pulling you in different directions. It can lighten your mental load, even if only for a moment or two.

I often find myself taking an all-important brain break, walking past that LEGO reef to immerse myself in the showroom and look for a piece or two for my current build.

So, with all of that in mind, I want to publicly announce what I have said to so many of you privately. Please enjoy what we have provided for you. Come in, hang out, sort some colours and relax in our space. Help others find their LEGO parts, build something for yourself, look closer at the builds on display and allow yourself time to simply breathe.

We may not be psychologists, counsellors, or support workers but, whatever you choose to do here, we will always share our happy place.

As my dad always said, “We are all the same, we just live in different houses.”

Love and hugs always,

Judy?

P.S. Please share this so we can help more people find our community (and, of course LEGO pieces).
