LEGO birthday party ideas

Looking for a way to make an upcoming birthday celebration even more memorable? Just add LEGO! From the invitations to unique gift ideas to bespoke decorations for your birthday party venue, LEGO play provides the perfect addition to celebrate any adults or kids birthday party, big or small.

Here are our favourite LEGO-themed birthday party ideas…

You’ve probably seen the birthday party packages from LEGO, but do you know that you can organise a LEGO-inspired party by yourself from scratch? Whether it’s for your child or a beloved AFOL, here are five ideas to include in your birthday party!

LEGO party décor

Why have balloons when you can have LEGO balloons? Or a centrepiece when you can have a LEGO centrepiece? Not only are LEGO party decorations fun to build for your party room – they also last forever! Even better, they’re completely customisable so you can build them to suit any party theme you like. This LEGO cake stand is an easy place to start, as is this LEGO napkin holder. The one thing you probably don’t want to make out of LEGO parts? The birthday cake… Though you can certainly recreate it in LEGO form, or build a fun cake topper.

LEGO party games and activities

When it comes to LEGO play, the opportunities for party games are endless – and they can be as simple or as complicated as you like! An easy party game is ‘Guess how many LEGO bricks are in the jar’. All you need to do is fill a clear jar with LEGO bricks and place it somewhere central, then have guests write their name and their guess on a piece of paper and put it into a box – whoever’s guess is closest to the correct number wins the jar! For younger party goers, make use of your tabletops for fun activities (like driving LEGO cars through a streetscape, setting up DIY LEGO board games or just placing a pile of LEGO parts for them to play with). Here are plenty of other LEGO party game ideas.

LEGO party favours

Don’t let your guests go home empty handed! Why not curate mini LEGO sets to send home with them so that they can build their own creation (a particularly good idea if your party had a theme!). They could also build their own custom Minifigure (also known as a signature figurine, or ‘sigfig’) at the party to take home – an activity and party favour in one! For a fun take on a traditional party bag, build a LEGO box (like this one) and fill it with lollies and other little treats.

LEGO birthday presents

If you’re attending a birthday party for a LEGO lover, rather than buying an off-the-shelf set, why not create your own personal one? Building sets from scratch isn’t just sustainable – it can also be an accessible way to customise the perfect gift for your friends. You can find instructions for MOCs (‘My Own Creations’, builds that have been designed by LEGO fans) or mods of existing LEGO builds online. You could also download instructions for LEGO builds for free on LEGO.com, then source the parts from a pre-loved LEGO supplier (like us!). And when all else fails, a BrickResales gift card is always a good idea…

LEGO gift wrapping

If you have another idea for a present, but still want to add a touch of LEGO play, why not incorporate it into your gift wrapping? Basic flower builds (like this one) look beautiful when tied to a present with ribbon, but you could also get creative and make a gift bow entirely out of LEGO parts. Take it one step further and build a LEGO gift box from scratch (upsizing the LEGO box we shared earlier is a great place to start).
